Sean Carroll, Richard Murphy, Edward McMellon and Kenneth Boss. The four plain-clothed officers who fired 41 shots into Amadou Diallo, an African immigrant, as he reached into his jacket pocket for his wallet. All were acquitted for his murder.
Gescard Isnora, Paul Headley, Michael Carey, Marc Cooper, Michael Oliver. The five plain-clothed and undercover police officers who fired at Sean Bell and his two friends the night before Bell’s wedding. Of the three who were taken to court, all were found not guilty in the murder of Sean Bell.
Edward Hanrahan. The State Attorney who organized the raid which would lead to the assassination of Fred Hampton. Every officer involved in the raid was cleared of all crimes by a grand jury.
Our justice system is not a two way street, and it has been proven time and again that in the United States, all men are unfortunately not created equal. Innocent or guilty, Troy Davis’ death is just another example of the state-sanctioned enslavement, and ultimate murder, countless black Americans face on a day-to-day basis. As my good friend Josie said, I can only hope he has found a freedom in death he was not allowed on earth.
RIP Troy Davis
